Default Low oil Light HELP???

On my way home from my girlfriends house I noticed the "LOW OIL " light came on . I added some oil and it seems ok now but this light comes on and off when it wants. Is this some thing I should be worried about? My dad says that it might be that the engine isn't compressed any more. I have checked for leaks before on my car and never seen an oil leak out of my car. My car has 120,981 miles on it. 2000 Camaro V6. Also what other maintainance should I do on my car with this many miles ?

Don't sweat the light man...the sensor is probably out/going out...it's right on the oil pan under the car---make sure you didn't overfillthe carwith oil though...that would be harmful to the engine! You'll notice that you can start the car cold, and the light will be on, but if you run errands around town, and start it while warm, the light will be off. The guys at the Chevy dealer quoted me $300 for a new oneinstalled...so I said I wouldn't worry about it for now .

if the car has oil then your fine...check it often and see if it's burning any...you could also do a compression test if your worried about compression.

Maintainence:
Fuel Filter, PCV, differential fluid change (recommended every 20k miles or so), lube tierods etch, tranny fluid/filter change (recommended every 20k miles or so), coolant flush (manual says at 100k for orange coolant) , ps fluid maybe, tune-up...

sometimes all those things get looked over so if you haven't owned the car for long i would do them

Check the oil level by using the dipstick, ifthe oil levelis OK then the sensor is bad, if the oil level is low add oil to the full mark.

That happened to me also. I know this sounds crazy, but turn on the car but dont start your engine. Pump the gas 3 times and it will reaet your censor. My mom has a chevy silverado and her owners manual told her to do that. So i did it and it worked for me......not unless it was dumb luck that the light decided not to come on anymore right after i did that, but bottom line, dont stress about it. I know it takes away the coolness of your dash when theres a tacky yellow light on, but it will not be there forever.
