Scanned my 00 3.8 camaro, got a PO420 code....I think its the air sensor on my exhaust considering I got a new set-up...Is there any way to either take it off completely so the SES light turns off or do I need to put a sensor on there? Which is easier?

I got a complete true dual set-up from the exhaust specialist guy in my area, he does all the nice cars and stuff, so it isn't a company one. But if you're having the same problem i'm assuming its the air sensor for sure then, so it's just a matter of sending a fake signal to the sensor or just cutting it off completely.

well im not a mechanic so i honestly cant tell you what you should do, however i can tell you that i have a K&N intake on my car as well...and my mechanic (who is also my uncle) thinks that its drawing too much air causing the engine to run lean. Which in turn killed my second catyltic convertor in a month which set off the P0420 code Catalyst Efficency Below Threshold Bank 1 i believe is its exact wording but dont qoute me...ive heard this damn line enough by now i aught to have it memorized. If you figure something out though please contact me on these forums cuz im sick of seeing that devil light.

Too much air should not kill a catalytic converter prematurely. SilverBullet, did you put a converter on both pipes of the true duals? Do you know where the guys who did your exhaust put the O2 sensors? If you're just wanting to get rid of the code, get an O2 simulator, or have the codes turned off with a tune.

right too much air shouldnt kill the convertor but if its not combusting correctly in the engine maybe something with that would? I dont know i just want to find out what is wrong with my car as well. The computer they hooked it up too apparently showed that it was running to lean? What should i check for?

That should work for ya Silver.

Stick89, does your car have any other problems, aside from the code?

I personally feel like it doesnt gain any more power after 4000 RPMs...like it just feels like its not getting the power it should in the higher RPM range. That could all just be me wishing it was a V8 but I dont know. Also sometimes when I just start it up and cruise around 25 in say 3rd gear (roughly 2500 RPMs) it starts to get shakey, do you think my injectors could need a nice cleaning or replacement because the fuel pump itself is brand new so that shouldnt be it.

Tonight Ishot the same P0420 code on my 01 3.8.
I just removed the ribsand sandedthe stock air lid instead of buying an SLP or Whisper lid.
The rest of the car is stock and I do not have any aftermarket exhaust so I was thinking that maybe the engine is running too lean (as a result of increased airflow in/same restricted airflow out). Could this be causing it to send that the front O2 sensor is not operating efficiently? I have no clue if this is possible.
Anyone have any thoughts on what might be my problem?
