Get a repair manual for your car. The bolts will need to be torqued correctly and in the proper sequenced in order to avoid warping things and having the leaks return. Also get all the old gasket material completely cleaned out.

Take your time. Label the wiring connections and spark plug wires with tape and mark them so that it will be easier get plugged back to the right connections and the right places on the coil packs. Be careful when removing the fuel rail, don't let fuel squirt in your eyes when you bleed it. Put it in a plastic bag to keep dirt out of your injectors. You should also get new fuel injector orings before you start to ensure you get a good seal when you re install the fuel rail. Oh, and don't let anyone turn the key on to listen to the radio when you have the fuel lines disconnected! Don't ask me how I know that!

Ok, a couple questions first.

1. Are you talking about the upper intake or the lower intake?
2. If it is the upper intake, did you remove the thermostat housing. It has a long bolt that holds the upper intake down.

My guess is that you are trying to remove the lower intake and the L shaped plastic water pipe on the front is holding it down. You may have to remove the bracket that the heater hoses are attached to to slide that piece out.

A pic of what is holding it down would help.

First off, the intake is divided into 2 parts, the upper intake which is the top part that has 3800 molded into the metal. The second part is the lower intake which has 6 big holes in it and is what is sitting directly under the upper intake. Inside the lower intake, you will find, I believe, 4 more bolts that have to be removed that are down in teh openings, 2 at the front and 2 at the rear. After those bolts are removed, the only other thing holding it would be a black plastic L shaped tube in the front that is a water tube. It should lift right off if you have all the bolts removed. Double check to ensure you have all the bolts removed. I have a thread that is a couple weeks old with some pics. I will see if I can find it and post a link to it.

wow thank you i was stuck on the long bolt in the thermostat housing. i thought maybe the pin that helps line it up was what i was stuck on. I now realize that it was just a pin . i also have the lower intake off. and i have a couple questions. first i noticed that one of the six hole on the intake looks clean just discolored and the rest are black and dirty? is the common? also when reinstalling the lower intake how do you get that L shaped water pipe back on? i was told that you have to set the Intake with the new gasket down straight so you don't mess up the alignment of it.

Edit: ok never mind about the intake holes color thing i just looked at ur pics and they are the same way so im assuming that it is not a problem
