Ignition Problem
I have a 1994 V6 Camaro (auto). It runs great when it runs, but lately I have been having problems with it cranking...major problems.
Was headed to school one morning and it died on me I managed to get it into a lot a few feet ahead of me. Cranked it up went 10 feet and it died again. It would not crank and all after that. My uncle (who's a mechanic) comes over while I'm at school puts starter fluid in it and it cranks up and runs fine. I drive it for a whole day fine and the next day same thing happens again. I kept putting starter fluid in it as it died until I got it home. I replaced the fuel filter, because it acted like it was getting enough gas. It ran fine for another day then it started dieing again the next day. I got it home and it sat there for a week. I went and bought a fuel pump, because I thought that was the problem. I got it over to my uncle's shop and he said it's not the fuel pump, because every time you turned the key on it came on for the standard 2 secs. So used his computer program and started with the whole crank system. Computer told him to first replace crank sensor, so we did. Didn't work then. Next we checked voltage on ignition control module sensors. Wasn't getting voltage so it said check ground. We got it grounded right and checked that. (The reason we went to the ignition control module is because of the error it was giving us when he plugged it up to the computer). It didn't run then either. Next it said replace the computer for the ignition control module. (The bottom plate underneath the coils). We happen to have an extra set of coils and module, when we replaced it though we used the coils that where on the one in my car. So after that it still wouldn't run. He plugged his computer back up and cleared out the error then it cranked. So I ran it yesterday (after we got it working) and today to work. I get out of work and it cranks up for about 15 seconds then dies. I crank it again...nothing. I put starter fluid in it, it cranks for 5 seconds then dies. So then I don't put starter fluid in it and try to crank it. It runs for about 1 sec then dies. I can keep trying to crank it and it dies after about a second. You can hear the fuel pump come on whenever you turn it on and when it does crank up it cranks up good and loud for, like I said, about a second.
Please help me... If there is any information that you need to know just ask (like the error code) and I can call my uncle and ask him what it was. (he uses all data systems and it was the code that first lead him to the crank system if any of you are familiar with it)
Thanks for your time in answering this.
Oh and someone said (on a 2005 post) that a coil may be bad. Well I still have the coils (from the good module) and will replace them asap to see if it works. If a coil is bad would it fry the control module computer and maybe that's why it ran for 50 miles or so before it had problems again?
