Default guess whos back? back again!

ok guys...miss me?! lol anyways. sorry for the vacation. now down to business. im doing a TT build. im not saying ANYTHING about the build until I KNOW i can complete it. one question i have is modifying the stock K member. i want to drill a 2 1/4 inch hole in the area behind the motor mount. im very weary about modifying the k member. now i do plan on adding some 1 inch box steel to the k for strength. any thoughts?

Drilling the K member could be hazardous to the health of the car and it's occupants. This is mainly where the holes are going to be and if they are going to be reinforced at all and how if so. Reinforcing a 2 1/4 hole with a piece of exhaust tubing will be useless but the same hole with a piece of 1/4 steel pipe may be ok and return the strength to the K member. Simply put you need to make sure you do not compromise the structure.

no not exhaust tubing. 1 inch box steel is strong as ****...I dont even know were because i dont have the car part and i dont even have a mock up yet. i may not even need a windowed k member...but if i had to it would be directly after the motor mounts in that flat area.

when i first looked at the car it was dark outside. now since i actually got a day off i did take time to go outside and look again and found a nice gap in the area were the K meets the unibody. but theres a lip that needs to be bent.that should buy me the space i need. Cedar points opening day is tomorrow and im taking the car on a road trip. After the road trip im pulling the headers off and starting mock up to see how much space i need and were at. I plan on following APS's setup very closely. Im also planning on using 2 16G mitsu turbochargers with 20G compressors. So hopefully everything will line up in a favorable spot..

Why not buy an aftermarket tubular k-member? Allows you to keep the strength needed to keep the car safe while offering lots of extra clearance.

How can you not find one? BMR, UMI, and Spohn all make them and have them for sale on their sites. I think they're around $500.
