Gas Mileage V6?

For some reason I am getting V8 gas mileage.... Why? All i have is CAI and Exhaust, I shift between 2500 Rpms and 3 at times.
I just dont understand it. It's got new Platinum plugs i installed about two months ago and wires, Is this normal for these V6 camaros to have this mpg? by the way these are usually highway miles. I drive about 35 miles to college each day and it takes me about a half a tank there and back sometimes more.
What can i do to give it better mileage?

Use more revs.

I doubt 2500 RPMs is in the meat of the 3.4L powerband.

Granny an engine = crappy MPGs.

I have heard v8esque figures from the 3.4L at times, but I have also heard upwards of 30 MPGs from them, too.

Probably because you are pushing the V6 trying to make it move as a V8. Drive barefoot with a thumb tack under yuor right foot.

Yep, use more revs.

You are definitely NOT in the 3.4L's peak powerband shifting well before 3000 RPMs. Pretty much, that's called "lugging the engine". Don't be afraid to use some revs to get the car up to speed, heck, it's a hefty car. You can settle in at ~2000 RPMs when you are cruising.

94camarosfi said its usualy highway and since its 35 miles just to college I think its something else. Because unless 94 is running into a lot of stop and go on the freeway the shifting should not affect the gas milige like that.....well it doesnt on mine. unless your flooring it or something.

I learned on my parents surburben that its how heavy your foot is. you can get your power like they said by revving higher with the pedal not as depressed and get better mpg.

Well, i dont think it should be usiong a half of a tank of fuel to go 70 miles(it did not see anyone pick up on this info.) I would look for a fuel leak(could of split a line or something) either at the rail or underneath the car. could also have a o2 sensor problem in which case i would think you may start to see a a plug or two powdered up. Its just a suggestion, don't know much about the 3.4l but fuel injection is basically the same onj all cars, just some of them have their own little comin problems. i do know my 3.8l gets about 30mpg. i went 200 mile on about a 1/2 a tank.

My 3.4L hasn't been modified and she has about 140,000 miles on her. I get about 20 mpg and she's getting to the point of needing some TLC. Personally I would suggest using the cruise control. It will enable your engine to maintain a constant speed as opposed to always speeding up or slowing down which would decrease your mpg a bit. Just a thought.

the 99 3.8 v6 camaro that my parents have gets about 28-30 mpg...heres a tip on the whole shfting too early thing...dont pay attention to the tacometer...the engine will tell you when its time too shift (i swear i wasnt trying 2 sound like some star wars character there...) but seriously...either that or a leak in your fuel line

RE: Gas Mileage V6?

I know how to shift. I always listen to the engine, but i know from the sounds when the RPM's are at 2500, 3000, 3500-4000. I rarely overrev my engine, by that I mean that I don't usually let it go into 4000-4200 RPM's unless im messing around on the streets racing but i only do that once in a great while. I want my car to last and I don't try to push it to its limits everytime i get in it like the guy that had it for only a month before me.
