Funny thing about this type of web site
I don't know why but I find this funny, A lot of young guys and gals come hear looking for advice about our beloved camaro. some of our "experts" like to give them a hard time. why is that? I work with young men and women all the time in the service, and they do ask some dumb *** questions. I think it is important to remember that we as so call experts on a internet site should remember what it is like to be young and full of questions. bottom line if you don't like the question don't reply. thanks and I will get off my soap box.......SFC

This is true.... But sometimes, the hard time is in more of Joking. All of us at some point didn't know crap about these cars. And we all saw them for the first time, and started working on them. We all learned, and while learning, people gave us a hard time. That didn't stop us, and for some people, it makes them want to learn it and figure it out that much more.
I work on computers, and cars are the same way, the best way to truely LEARN about it is to do it. Someone always handing you an answer and sending you on your way doesn't a;ways help you to understand how something works, and what is effected by it. I am not saying we shouldn't help, and if you have an answer then it should be shared, but I think part of the learning process is teaching these young people how to solve the problem, and not just hand them the answer....
Like I started with though, I agree with you that I hate when people discourage others that are asking qustions and trying to learn.

I don't consider myself an expert, being that I have to look up manuals to give people a useful answer. Something that they should be able to do by themseves if they intend to work on their cars. That being said, I don't bash peole for asking questions, but it irks me when they ask a question, and don't do what was suggested, but continue to complain that the car does not run right. So, rather than getting into a pissing contest, I just go to a different thread.

Exactly what I was trying to say.... but said much better. I am all for helping, but 90% of the time, my helping is looking up thier question and doing some reserch, since I am far from an expert. But I do hate when an answer is given, and the person asking just complains cause it's not the answer they "want" to hear, or it's not a simple solution....

It has not been that long ago since I knew absolutely nothing about these cars. The first thing I done was buy a Haynes manual to help me find my way around. Then I read alot on this site. Finally, I had the nerve to ask my first question.
There are some people who have never changed a tire on a vehicle, never changed the oil themselves, heck, don't even know the difference between a ratchet and an open end wrench. So, telling them to change the plugs is like speaking a foreign language. I give them credit for wanting to learn.
I guess some people do not have access to some of the information such as manuals, etc and might not have the money to purchase them. Same for repairs, they might get an answer but in hopes that there is a cheaper fix for their problem, don't do the repairs or have the tools, jacks, etc to properly work on their vehicle.
I am a field service rep and it is the same in the medical repair business, customers calling wanting part numbers when they have the manual on the shelf beside them, don't want to pay the price for the part or onsite service, or wanting to know if they can borrow my equipment because they don't want to spend the money for their own.
Oh, and I am sure I have ask some pretty dumb questions on here! But thanks to everyone on this site who has provided input!
