Fuel Pressure Regulator
My gas mileage is terrible! What are the main symptoms of a bad fuel pressure regulator???
Bad fuel pressure?
Yes bad fuel pressure. I have to drive with both feet. lol... It's that terrible. What are the symptoms? If i have gas in the vacuum hose that connects the air filter to the throttle body is that a good enough symptom?
Then put in a new one. The diaphragm is broken.
How do you change them? I was thinking they were part of the fuel rail? Do you have to change the whole rail? Or am I missing something here?
The factory sez to replace the regulator and fuel rack as a unit. However, there may be an aftermarket kit that allows replacing the regulator internal parts only. Check wit your local parts shop.
i thought i could just replace the regulator by itself!

What year and engine, Kendagenius? If you're driving with both feet that's very, very, very bad. You will cook the transmission.
A bad fuel pressure regulator usually causes high presssure at idle. The computer can't cut back injector pulse width enough to deliver the correct (small) amount of fuel required at idle so the engine runs rich. I bought an Olds Ninety-Eight years ago after the owners used the "both feet" method for a few weeks. The trans was so burned up inside that it couldn't be rebuilt. Wish I taken pics of what I found inside. It looked like someone had gone crazy with a stick welder. The root problem with that car was a stuck-on EGR valve. Is the Service Engine Soon light on? Rockauto shows a fuel pressure regulator for a 2000 3.8 Camaro for $50. |
Yes. 1998 3.8 Liter Camaro. How would I know if it is the EGR that has gone bad on mines??????
