the ground cable should be with all the fan harness that attaches to the fans, you said you have a 3800, there is two fans right, and you only see one fan turn on, you have tested the wires and you have power to only one conection and not to the other one? if so check you fans relays, there is a three fan relays that work the fans.

the dealer told me that only 2 of the 3 fan relays are used. when i put in a new relay in #1 the fan came on instantly. then my engine light still comes back on. my car in traffic gets to like 234 degrees and now its getting warmer out it will get hot a lot faster. my thermostat works fine.is it worth $120 to take it to a dealer to find out whats wrong with it? my obd gives 2 codes both are 1651 one has a p and the other like a b or backwards p. thank you so much for your replies.

so all your relays are ok? the dealer told you that only #1 is bad, and 2 and 3 are good? have you try checking out ur coolant sensor on your car it should be below the throttle body, it could be that is bad and not sending the signal for the pcm to turn the fan on?

well it looks like you are missing a relay then, according to Hayness book,a 97 and earlier vehicles should have 3 relays check out the picture that i upload. 2.cooling fan relay #1, 3.cooling fan relay #2, 4.cooling fan relay #3, number 1 relay on the picture is for Air conditioning compressor.

there is nothing at all hooked up to fan 1 relay it is just an empty slot. fan relay 2 works and fan relay 3 there is something wrong with the power to it the wire that supplies the power to it is neutral has no power. thanks for your replies
