fan #1 help please!? and a/c compressor seized!?
hi, i am a first time poster here, but i just got my 97 3800 firebird from my sister and i have a few problems that i need help with. i scanned my cars computer and got a few codes. i had a bad egr valve, i replaced it with one from a junk yard for 25$ and it was in new condition and works great. but the second code P1651,p1651pd is the one i cant get rid of. i let my engine heat up the other day and only the passenger side fan would come on when the engine was a little over 210. i know that the drivers side fan works cause i jumped it,but it wont come on at all. but i just want it to come on and work properly because i am driving it to south carolina on thursday and i dont want any problems over heating in traffic while i am there or something.i was also thinking that it might have to do with my seized a/c compressor. its totally frozen, i was also wondering if anyone knows where i can get an a/c bypass pulley for this car. i would be happy for any help or suggestions that might fix my problems i am having. i also know that the relay is good cause i swapped it with the one from the other fan(passenger side) while it was on and it kicked on also. thank you for your help. oh yea, i got a new thermostat too.

i wouldnt wory to much. With my 3.4 the car overheats with the fan on when it hot out but as long as i drive it cools down real real fast. You should be fine as long as you don't hit bumper to bumper trafic but if your realy woried check your relays fuses and if thats not it hook it up to a switch and mount the switch somewhere low and out of sight inside.

If the a/c pulley spins when the clutch is disengaged (i.e. a/c not on), then I would just leave it. Otherwise you will have to route the belt a new way, as I don't believe the 3.8 has a bypass pulley assembly. As for the fan, I would check to make sure the wires are all intact, and check to make sure they are not loose around where the relay plugs in.
