i knew it wasnt an ls1 but the previos owner got this motor to put in a third gen and he said it could be from a 91 92 or 93 so i wasn't sure on where it came from. he also said it came out of a firehawk. is there anyway of me know if it did or not?

That's definitely a 4th gen (93-97) LT1, can tell by the water pump. There are 2 differences between the optispark styles between the years, but the rest of the engine is the same. The LT1 is a corporate engine that was used in more than one car, as opposed to some engines of my vintage that were more car model specific. The Vette LT1 is a little different internally, in that it has 4 bolt mains. There isn't a difference with the engine itself between a Camaro, Firebird, or Firehawk.

Due to a different air intake and exhaust.

If its a Lt1 that needs rebuilt its not worth much, which is why someone would give it away. You are looking at a couple of thousand to rebuild it right with you doing the labor. The parts are not worth much because they will only work with 93-97 Lt1s. I have a spare Lt1 in my garage that needs rebuilt, if some offerend me $200 for I would sell it in a second.

If the motor is useable just keep your eye out for a Lt1 car with a blown motor. They come up now and again on craigs list. I picked up a 93 6 speed (project 93 in my sig) for $1500 two years ago. I have seen seveal automatic since then and they normally go for $1000 or under. It would be 1/10 work of a convertion. Plus when your done the car would be worth twice as much.

Insurance is a contract, if you are deceptive in any way to the insurance company a judge can rule the contract null, meaning you don't have insurance. The insurance company is not going to play that card unless something big happens, but that is when you need them the most.

If I remember right, the Firehawks got (literally) the same engine as the 'Vette. 4 bolt mains, less restrictive intake/exhaust. But the Trans Am/Formula/GT (1994 only) all were the same as the Z28s. I'd take the oil pain off and see if it's 2 or 4 bolt main. They are rare though because their was maybe 200 Firehawks built a year.

from what i was told it came from a 1993. it has been sitting in the guys garage since 03. so as of now the motor is locked up but wont be in a couple of weeks. i put trans fluid in the cylindars yesturday and will be changeing the oil in a couple weeks to get it out.
