Engine Noise
hi there, i'm new around here but am glad to say i'm a camaro owner myself, although it's a v6 automatic it gets the job done. i have a question about my engine, ever since i got the car a year ago i've noticed a high pitched whining noise coming somewhere around the alternator. i know it's not the alternator cause i've had it replaced under warranty and it didn't fix the problem. just curious if anyone else here has experienced the same noise that i have and have found a solution to it cause it gets on my nerves, lol. thanks!

RE: Engine Noise
Ive had 3 camaros all with 3.8 s and everyone of them has had a whine, i found all of my power steering pumps were worn. I believe that they may have started whining due to excessive rpms.lol may want to run the car and take of the top to the pump and if the noise is louder when you do that then thats your sign. Or if ur unsure of that method just take a rubber hose and hold it to it and you should hear that too.

RE: Engine Noise
if it is the power stearing. it will make a louder noise when u turn the stearing wheel from one side to the other fast.
check your water pump thoe, try wiggleing the pully (it shouldnt move) and feel under it for coolent comming out of the weep hole
i had a gtp that was squeeling from the power steering, and i just had it flushed and it fixed the pblm

RE: Engine Noise
Got A/C?
Could be the compressor clutch, my old Cavalier did that, but strangely when I would turn on the A/C it would go away (The parts would stop moving relatively to each other kinda thing).
Turns out it just needed adjusted instead of replaced, like $45 at the stealership. (Granted, that was on a J-body before I had my F-body)
