Driveshaft Reinstall

Is there anything you need to do with the driveshaft on the 3.8 5spds? I just installed mine and it seems like it should go further in on the output shaft on the trans, but its fully seated on the rear end. Thanks for all the help so far. This is a wonderful forum!

Remember if the car is jacked up on a jack the drive shaft is in its fully extended state. As you let the car down the drive shaft will go in farther.

I have swapped shafts from Z28 to 3800 5 speeds and not had a problem.

How far out are you talking about? With the tires on the ground, the slip yoke wants to be pulled back 3/4"-1" from the fully seated position.

A 3rd gen driveshaft (700R4 vintage and newer) will also work. I've used the same shaft in both before.

I have a driveshaft out of a 89 5speed in my 94 v6 automatic

Good tip my Dad taught me

Before removing the drive shaft always put a mark on each end and a corresponding mark on the tranny and rear end. Always good to install it with splines exactly were they were. If you don't you may feel a vibration when accelerating. My Dad figured it out on my 66 Mustang in 1977. So I was off 180 degrees, what a pain in the *** that was, but once again he figured it out.
