Red face difference between 3.8 engine out of automatic and manual tranny

Ok ... so my motor is knocking. I found a motor to swap with but it's out of a manual and i have an automatic. Can I just pull mine and drop the other in? Are there differences anything that would make this more challenging?

Keep your sensors and put them on the new engine and you should be ok. There should be no difference other than that. If I remember correctly some of the sensors are different like the knock sensor and maybe the O2 sensors. I dont really know for sure and I am too tired right now to research this at the moment. Things like the Cam and crank sensors and oil and temp sensors should all be the same. Make sure to use your throttle body and TPS for best results.

Thank you... I'll keep my fingers crossed. My husband is wondering if there is a pilot bushing difference between that one out of the manual and my automatic? If you can think of anything else I appreciate it.

The engine from the automatic will have a pilot bushing in it. It will not hurt anything. You can take it out if you want or just leave it there. Most of time when i swap in a used motor I dont even know if it from a manual or an automatic until it shows up.

The auto will not have the pilot bushing the manual tranny will. The pilot bushing/bearing holds the input shaft of the tranny and helps support it. The Auto does not need one since the input shaft of the auto goes into the torque converter. Either way if you are using a manual engine in an auto car then you can just leave it in there. If you are putting an auto engine in a manual car then you will need to replace the bushing/bearing.

Sweet! Motor just got delivered... Now what is easier we are obviously not professionals... drop the motor down and jack up the car or pull the motor out? We are using the original tranny... leave tranny in and just pull the motor or pull it all?
