Whatever you do, Do Not Mix the Dex with the green.

I'm pretty sure if you do a good flush job you can switch to green without problems though. Mixing it will just make a nice brown sludge

Your water will boil over (at 212 degrees) without antifreeze in it. Antifreeze not only lowers the freezing point, but it raises the boiling point.

Okay not to sound like the biggest noob in the room but what is Dexcool and do I even have to worry about it? I have a 02 3.8

*eep!* I just did a quick google search....did not like what I found....gotta check in the morning. If my car has dexcool should I flush it and change to another type of antifreeze?

ya from what i hear dexcool is the worst thing you could put in your engine i guess its very acidic but makesure you get it all out flush the sht out of it

but with the water i wont be able to get antifreeze for like 10 days or so will cammy be ok untill then

Dexcool has properties in it (that the green stuff doesn't have) that were specifically designed to protect the different metals in modern engines, which older engines don't have. The dexcool problems came from lack of maintenance, because it was considered a long life coolant. No matter which coolant you use, maintain and flush the cooling system regularly, even if the bottle says you can leave it in forever. If you do that, neither coolant will damage your engine. The coolant gets acidic from not getting changed when it should.

motor will run a bit hotter with straight water. keep an eye on the temp gage. has it had antifreeze in it before. its not good for a new water pump to run without the additve lubricant that antifreeze has in it. if its not a new pump i would think u will be ok for a short time, not sure on 10 days. how many miles and time per day?

if its not a bran new pump i would say u should be ok but if the water pump is already on the verge of failing it could push it over the edge, still keep an eye on the temp and see if it will get to hot.
