Default Could faulty PCM cause starting problems?

I have been battling hard starting from my 1995 Camaro with a 3.4L for some time now and so I was discussing this with a friend of mine. He seems to think that its my pcm. He had a van with the same engine that had a similar problem as well as a friends firebird of the same generation and a new pcm fixed it. I'm not too familiar with how the PCM works but I know it controls fuel.
I have changed the ignition system, fuel filter, and FPR. After it finally starts it smells of fuel. Just wanted to see if anyone could back up this theory before I purchase another one.

ECM don't go bad that often. Have you checked for trouble codes. Hard starting is usually caused fuel problems or ignition problems. What have you checked so far?

It doesn't throw any codes, I checked the fuel pump for any electrical problems a month ago on my tech class and I'm about to go to autozone and rent a fuel pressure gauge to see if i have adequate fuel. What pressures am I exactly looking for?

Mid 40's to low 50's for psi. Have you done any mods to your car? Like cam or timing chain? How's the plugs, coils and icm?

Well I've done a head gasket on it a few months ago and it did it before then. It does seem sluggish at WOT though

Have you tried priming the fuel pump before attempting to start? Turn ignition key ON & OFF several times, allowing a few seconds between cycles, then try to start engine. Stay off gas pedal. If engine starts up quickly, then the fuel injection system is losing pressure when the engine is off.

I have tried that and it doesn't prime the system enough to start right up. I appreciate all the help from you guys, I just hope to figure it out before the snow season comes

Test your fuel pressure then. You might have a bad fpr or fuel pump.
