You're not looking hard enough then. K&N makes one that fits your car. Several other companies make air box lids to replace the restrictive factory one.

Guess I should rephrase that. Can't find one that doesn't cost an arm and a leg. I did see a couple of lids for around $100, all for the V8s though.

I'm sure fitting onemade for a '97 3.8 wouldn't be a problem. I'm not sure if anything would be in the way though. That's something I would checkout beforehand. Also, there are some people on here and other forums, that have made their own custom one for fairly cheap.

Yea I thought about picking up the '97 one and seeing if I could mod it to make it work.

You can simply mod the stock one without buying any aftermarket parts and get the same result. All you have to do is remove the baffles in the air lid, then polish the inside until its smooth. That will give you better air flow. I haven't done that to mine yet, but other people on the forums here have.
