if it is changing the engagement point on you (sometimes up high, sometimes down low) that means you blew your tranny hydraulics. I just had the same thing happen to me. its like $150 for a new master and slave cylinder. I got mine from ls1speed.com, but you can go pretty much anywhere. just get the upgraded 01+ hydraulics set.

ur tranny is mechanically fine.the hydraulics control clutch engagement and they are shot. depending on how they failed your clutch may also be just fine.

Start with a master and slave cylinder. and wait till you drop the tranny to decide if the clutch needs fixed. if you do fix the clutch I would get a new flywheel as well. a new TO bearing may not be a bad idea either.... even though i didnt do it.... lets hope that doesnt come back to bite me

I would say by the questions you're asking you'd be better off leaving a clutch and flywheel replacement to the professionals. It's not a hard job if you know what you're doing and know your way around the car, but it's a pretty in depth job for someone with only basic mechanical experience.

also requires some non-conventional tools. do you have the means by which to drop the transmission without it actually dropping?

most people dont. I would (and did) let someone else do it

Quick question, did you check your clutch fluid? Pulling the tranny isn't too bad, I pulled mine out myself. But I had the entire exhaust system out, so that made things easier for me. Just depends on what mechanic's skills you have.
