Checking coolant level

Lol, this is probably very silly. And I feel noobish asking this after driving my Camaro for almost half a year. But where do I check my coolant level? I've looked around under the hood and didn't find any place to do that. Am I just missing something obvious, or is there no way to check it?

There should be a reservoir next to your battery with a long neck that has a cap labeled coolant. Your cap must be a replacement or the letters probably wore off some how.

I prefer to check the radiator. I don't quite understand how the overflow reservoir is supposed to indicate level.

I have a hard time looking at the reservior also. I just check rad when the engine is cool. Also Be sure to check witch antifreeze you need to use. You may have the new dexacool. it is red in color SFC

If you never checkd the coolant level, maybe it is time for a radiator flush and refill since it is 1996 model. Also you will have Dexcool, so make sure they use the same with a refill.

How would I go about checking the radiator? By opening the little cap that says "Do Not Open! Injury may occur" and just looking in there when the engine is cool?

Yes sir. You can open if it's hot if you're careful. That warning is there so idiots can't sueif they got burned by hot engine coolant. Push down on it with your palm and twist counterclockwise. That's the easiest way I've found to open it.

Some people should not be allowed to own a car until they passed Automotive 101.

I just brought a '96 home

The coolant is green, has this caused any damage??

Also the sticker under the hood says there is a "Special" way to fill cooling system.

What might that be?

As long as all the old Dexcool was flushed out, green coolant is fine. The difference between the two, is Dexcool is "supposed" to last longer before needing to be changed. Special way... Perhaps they are talking about using the bleed screw on the t-stat housing. If you have the owner's manual, it tells you. Nothing really special about it.
