RE: cat performance
i just cut the at off my 3.4 and havent had any trouble with it. no SES lights or anything. there is a straight pipe welded in place of the cat. it doesnt sound bad at all. i havent been able to tell if my mph has changed yet, i didnt think to check.

If the replacement cat is a direct fit and the exhaust hasn't been molested it should be a bolt on job. Otherwise it may have to be welded in place. You will have to deal with the usual stuck bolts and rust in your face.

RE: cat performance
if you have to pass any type of emissions then you have to keep the cat on. otherwise with our OBD1 systems there is no problem. the newer camaros have the ODB2 system and O2 sensors between the cat and the muffler. if the cat is cut out then the sensor tells the computer that there is a problem and the car goes into shock so to speak and labors. we only have O2 sensors on the down pipes so no worries for our cars.

RE: cat performance
so in conclusion, with the OBD1 system it makes no difference weather you have a cat or not no mpg change, and actually might be better for exhaust flow, and you must keep the cat with the OBD2 sytem b/c the o2 sensors are 'after' the cat.
