thanks man, what exactly is an o2 sim ? is that just a new oxygen sensor? and one more thing... what would happen if i cut that thing out and welded in some straight pipe with a o2 sensor mount it it ??
basically im trying to gain mpg... thanks

O2 sim basically simulates an o2 sensor (b/c a straight pipe would throw off the comp)

they run $100?ish

You don't need an O2 sim on a 3.4, there's no sensors behind the cat. I have a 3.4 also, and have a straight pipe in place...you'll notice maybe 1, 2 MPG increase at most.

alright so moral of this story is cutting the cat off will gain mpg correct ?

also.. the o2 sensor is in front of the cat (more towards the engine) correct so removing the cat won't affect it ? ( I haven't looked at it yet)

O2 sensors are in the exhaust manifold...not the cat

the location of the O2 has nothing to do with it, it has to do with the cat measure emissions and throwing off the computer

i would NOT remove the cat b/c 1. It will sound like **** and 2. it will set of the SES light and possibly mess with the computer.

Catco High Flow Cats (part #6006) are only like $50 on ebay and will be less restrictive and sound better than stock cat/straight pipe, and will improve performance, and possible gas mileage...nothing significant tho.

I removed my cat on my 84 delta 88 and I didn't notice any improvements in mpg

somewhat off the subject but, how hard is it to install a cat on your own? any special tools you'd need?
