Default Car whines alot

Why does the 3.8 V6 engine whine so much? Is it the water pump or the engine itself. Whatever it is i cant stand it anymore. Camaros are suposed to sound cool, even if it is just a V6. Does anyone have any tips on how to beef up the sound? Or at least get rid of that wimpy whining noise?

Oh, well mine is a 2000, im not sure but i think the 1998-2002 sound slightly different from the 1993-1997 camaros....even though they have the 3.8 also. My friend has a 95 and it sounds nothing like mine.

i think 1999+ (or at sometime around then) they switched to tubular manifolds which might affect the sound a little...every car is different tho

correct me if I'm wrong but weren't the only cars that got the 3.8 in 95 california versions? are you sure it's not a 3.4? those sound completely different

I have a 3.8 and not all 3.8's are cali versions. That wining sound, I think I know what it might be. It might be the belts, I have a whining sound, its not a bad sound though, I think its a cool sound, becuase its not like the belts are squeaking, its the same sound as a supercharger, its just quieter. and the sound is matches how much you hit the throttle. Personally I like the sound of it when it picks up, Im use to driving turbo'd cars, so I like the build up.

i agree with what sooperdewd said....i like the whining sound, it sounds like a supercharger just a lot quieter.

in 1995 the 3800 II was introduced to the california camaro's only (lots california cars are differen't than else where due to emissions)...then in 1996 the 3800 II was available in all camaros throughout the US.

are you sure it's not the power steering pump whining, or a loose belt or something

A high load on the charging system will cause the alternator to 'whine' a bit. The load could be from a marginal battery, an 'enhanced' stereo system, high output lights ....

Mine was making the alt. whinea bit more then usual, until the cold weather showedthebattery as almost gone. New battery and a LOT less whine.
