It can be done at my home. But I have the equipment and the training
. You should take it to a shop to be evac to remove all the mositure. Its a good idea to replace the dryer-receiver at this time. Also they should have the equipment to get the right amount of coolant back in the system.
If you system is charged you want to drain it slowly and from the top so no oil is lost. Make sure the AC shop you are working with knows hows you drained the system. If you are replacing the compressor it should come with instruction on how much oil to add directly to the compressor.
