AC delete pulley for a 3.8?

A funny thing happened to me on the way to work yesterday. Since I had a salvage motor put in late in October I've been visiting my 97 Maro in the garage more than driving it. I pulled into the parking lot and heard a metallic thud and the check brakes light came on. And I lost power steering. And the voltage meter dropped. And all the idiot lights came on. And I almost lost bladder control.

I popped the hood and stared in disbelief at the AC compressor dangling by the power wire. 3 hours later I was waving goodbye to my car as the rollback pulled away...again. The bracket broke and will cost $50 and can't be ordered until Monday.

Instead of paying $50 to put a dead compressor back on, is there an AC delete pulley for a 3.8 or a smaller belt size I can buy that leaves out the AC pulley?

Please save me from having yet another weekend without a car.

(Anybody need a 1997 Camaro? To test drive, visit the local repair shop. If it's not there just wait. It will be there again soon, trust me.)

Thanks! I have a dead condensor, I just need the mounting bracket. The few 4th gens in my local junkyards are all 3.4 motors.

Alright well let me see if I can dig one up... I don't think I have the mount because I re-used it in my car but I will look and get back to ya in about 30 mins.

Take a string and run it on the path the belt will take without the compressor in the loop, then measure the string. That will give you the length you need for the new belt... Depending on the length, the belt could be $20, or if it's not a popular belt, it could run nearly $80. Velocity pricing is a strange thing.

I used a cloth measuring tape like tailor shops use and came up with 62 inches. After doing a search for "62 inch camaro belt" it seems like others have used the same size belt, but had "rubbing" issues. Looks like I'm just going to order a new bracket and put the dead compressor back on.

It's a shame that you can find AC delete pulleys for 3.4 and 5.7 Camaros all day long, but the 3.8 is a no show. Very sad.

My 97 camaro 3.8 had a loud screeching noise coming from the ac pulley all I did was put a smaller belt on that completely bypasses that pulley and the idle pulley above it. I'll type up verbatim what the packaging says for the belt.

I have had this done since July and I have had no problems with it at all.
hope this helps
