Does anyone have any idea how to take this part off and replace it?? It's on my 96 rs with a 3.8... Most mechanics I talked to say they charge well over 800 to replace it!! I am mechanically inclined and would like to do it myself.. any suggestions will help..also anything else i have to do to make my compressor fully functional...

 

The AC compressor change itself would not be super hard. Its just nuts and bolts. The special tools and knowledge required to bring the system back from a compressor replacment is another thing. Add in the fact you will most likely need to flush the entire system because of the compressor failure and there is just too much to teach in a thread. There are so many things that could go wrong and many of them would destory your new compressor. I am all for a amatur fixing a leak because there is not a lot to risk, but a compressor replacment should be left to a pro or altease someone understands how AC works.
