Default 99 3800 programmer

Hi all Hopefully if the snow stops ill be picking up my 99 v6 camaro 5speed. Ive been poking thru the forums for mod info...but i do have a question...who makes a programmer for this car? summit only lists a piggyback jet brand chip for 247$....that didnt sound right since its a 99 model shouldnt it be a reprogrammer like the one i have for my 03 gmc 6.0l....plugs into obd2 port and has multiple options?
From what ive read gears, programmer, flowmaster exhuast, pacesetter headers and a k/n filter with baffle removal is the way to go and ive sourced all the items cept the programmer....oh yeah summit has a coldair duct thing for 150 bucks that mounts on the radiator...is that worth anything?

Thanks guys

Hypertech and superchips have the hand held and jet is just a plug in. There's a few more out that just can't remember them.

I have a 1999 V6 I used a Jet Spectum programer. If you Dyno they use HP programing for our car. That I know no chips are availble.

There is also a USB cable that you can make or buy and software for a laptop to create your own programmer. If you ask me that is the way to go.

Is there a kit to program your PCM yourself? Who makes it?

I dont have any links to any system right now. I have searched for them in the past and found a few open source programers and a few pay for the software setups. You can find the schematics for the cable for free as well. I am not in the position to need this right now so I have not paid much attention to it all.

Ok so I thought I'd look into a programer a little more and I found this one.
Its a hptuner vcm suite: http://www.hptuners.com/products/vcmsuite.php
and the order site is: http://www.hptuners.com/order.php

It works for all obd II camaros except 96. But thats and easy fix, get the 97 pcm and then it'll work for a 96.

I honestly now think that those hand helds are a waste after seeing what this thing can do. The fact that you can change everything to how you want it and be able to get more performance and responsiveness out of your engine and tranny then those hand helds.

If a modwants to add that programer to the initial mod sticky that would be great.

dont have exsperince with it but it will fit boththe ls1 and the 3800. in 1999-2002 camaros they have a throttle wire so there is no down word turn on the throttle bodies like the 96-98 3.8l.

Only the 3800 camaros from 99-02 (and some late built 98s) have throttle by wire. The LS1 remained cable driven in camaros through the end of production. Corvette LS1s got the TBW in 98-or 99.
