Default 97 3.8 catalytic converter

I was wondering if any of you guys have taken the catalytic converter off your car or run a straight pipe though the cat. The reason I am asking is because my cat is making a rattle noise when you put the car in gear and I wouldent mind the car being a little louder and saving a few bucks on a high flow cat. Also what about the two sensors in front and behind the cat will this affect them ?
Thanks Eastern Stryker

Removing the cat will definetely get the rear O2 sensors exited, but you can buy O2 sims for the rear and keep the SES light off. If you have to pass smog inspection, you will need a cat, or the car will fail.

Thanks yes in Maryland my car has to pass emissions but all they do is take a mirror under the car to check for the cat and plug into the cars computer to see if there is any codes. But can you tell me where to get one of those sensors thanks Eastern Stryker

If you are doing that then your going to want to tune out the sensor. As the sim plugs into wear the sensor plugs in. So once you reconnect your sensor for smog you'll set of codes. Are you sure it's your cat that rattles? I thought mine rattled but it turned out to be the connection right after the cat by the drive shaft.

Yes its my cat because you can hit it and you can hear all the loose stuff inside it. I dont know if I should just get a Hi flow cat form magna flow or get a sim o2 and run a pipe through the cat.

I would just get a MagnaFlow high flow cat. That's what I did when my cat started rattling like yours.

if you get a high flow cat your going to need to tune your sensor to not be so sensitive. your best bet would be to go into a dyno shop and ask is they can tune out that 4th sensor for you then gut the cut out.

If you can still pass with a magnaflow cat why would the sensor still throw a code? doesn't make sense x.x

because the air flows through it faster then a stock cat making it harder for the sensor to get a correct reading. its not a problem with obd1 cars but the obd2 cars are alot more sensitive to this.
