Default 96 camaro rs.. a few problems

hey guys.. i havent been on in a while but i knew i could come back on here and get some answers.

im pretty sure all these problems have something to do with the alarm system.

1. when i hit the unlock button with my remote, the alarm is deactivated but it wont unlock the car. i have to open it with the key and lock it with the key.

2. the alarm suddenly went off a couple nights ago.. this is the second time it does it.

3. when i go to start the car sometimes the "security" light comes on, and it wont come off. I cant start the car so i have to wait about 5 or 10 min then the light comes off and i can start my car back up.

i heard from a friend that it could be the anti theft chip the key has? do those things go bad? any info would be greatly appreciated guys.

thanks

OK I will do my best here.

Chip in the key is just a resistor, unless it is physically damaged it should never change.

Your car has all the security settings, door lock settings, and key fob programing set by the BCM. This device also handles the RAP and curtsey light delay, also the Lock feature of the factory stereo. Your BCM may be damaged by corrosion or by the typical relay came loose syndrome that our cars get. Search my threads started in my profile to find the thread that tells you how to fix that.

Also with the door locking and unlocking I believe that is one of the customizeable settings that you can do. Check your owner's manual for instructions on what can be changed and how. Worst case scenerio here is your BCM is bad and needs to be replaced and reprogramed. Almost worst case is your need to have the BCM flashed and the default program reloaded. This can only be done by GM and will cost you around $100. Also if you think it does need a flashing then make sure that the relay is soldered good to the board and that there is no corrosion on the board as well.

I have repaired BCMs that had both corrosion and loose relays and solved alot of issues that the car had.
