95 running rough

Hello, I have a 95 Camaro V6 . It is running rough at a idle. At speed it seems ok. It is smoking a little with blueish white smoke and smells like burning oil.
I suppose it could be a bad ring or something. I was just wondering if there may be something else that it could be .

thanks

If something similar has already been posted and I missed it .I apologize.

Sounds like a blown head gasket to me man. Mine did that about a month ago. Does it blow smoke like that only at idle or does it blow smoke at speed too??

If you are burning oil, you may be fouling out the plugs causing it to run rough or you may have low compression on one or more of the cylinders. You could remove the plugs to see what they look like. How many miles on the engine? Does it smoke all the time or after letting it sit for awhile at first start up?

mostly at first start but smells bad all the time.. Has 145k on it.. I have not removed the plugs yet but that was going to be my first mission (plugs and wires) but the smoke is my worry.. Didnt know if maybe a bad plug or two could be causing the smoke. when you stop at a red light and then it will smoke a little when you get going again.

I am not sure if it is smoking at speed or if the wind is dissipating the smoke.

Look under your car as well to make sure you are not leaking oil somewhere and it is running down on your manifolds or back across your oil pan on to your exhaust system causing the smell of burnt oil. Sounds like you are getting blow by on your rings. Plugs will not cause it to smoke but the smoke(burning oil) will gum up your plugs. Also might want to check the PCV valve.

Yah thats kinda what i thought. May need to rebuild it i suppose. But hey whatever it takes lol

May be a combination of problems

You could also be needing the valve stems replaced as well. Do a vac test and compression test on the engine and maybe a pressure test of the coolant system to help tell the condition of the engine before writing it off as a total rebuild.

My grandfather in law has been a mechanic for 30+ years and he has built many car from the ground up. He said it sounds like a bad valve... He said there's no way to tell for sure without a compression test.

ok.. I just went out and started it and put my hand over the tailpipe. when I pulled my hand back I had oil on it
