Default 94 Firebird - Smell of raw fuel and SES?

Hey all, I recently got a 94 Firebird with the 3.4L.. I've noticed that it has a strong smell of raw fuel at idle, and after a few mins of the engine running the SES comes on, but if I cut it off and back on, the SES is gone, until a few more mins of running. It also seems like it isn't getting the mileage it should be. 140 miles on half a tank?

Ideas?

have it scanned for trouble codes. do a fuel pressure test. also take the vacuum hose off the fuel pressure regulator and check for fuel in the vacuum hose.

I can't find anyone with an OBD I scanner. I tried the jumper wire trick but it didn't work. Ideas?

jumper wire will not work on a 94. have you called around to all the parts stores to see if they can do it. may be worth it to pick up a aldl cable so you can use your computer. ALDU1 and CABL1 XtremeALDL and NewCABL1 Combo [ALDU1_CABL1] - $80.00 : Moates.Net

a little more on the 94-95
