Default 94 3800 swap to 97 3800

im swapping out a blown 3800 from a 94 rs to a 3800 out of a 97rs. so far the only issue is tha the wire harness has a couple different plug ends which is not a problem, and i put the TB from the 94 onto the 97 engine cause i needed the MAF sensor. it starts up fine but may have a slight vacuum leak, also no big deal ill fix it first thing. so before i go out to finish this up i wanted to ask you camaro guys if you think i need to use the CPU from the 97 with the 97 engine i just installed or if the original CPU from the 94 would be fine to keep in there? any suggestions, advise, secrets? i would appreciate any response. thank you guys (or gals) in advance for your time and knowledge.

3800 in 1994??? You mean a 3400? The firing oreder is different so you can not use the 1994 3.4 comupter. The OBD2 computer system that came out in 1996 is completley different. You will need the entire computer system, including the Anti theft system and the Body control modual all the instruments. You will also need the transmission and the K frame from the 97.

If you pulled a 3.8 out of a 94, then someone converted it from the original 3.4. It's not inconceivable.

im positive its the 3800. i've started it and it does seem to have a misfire on initial acceleration but smooths out in the higher rpms . i had a vacuum leak coming from the port on the back of the intake that goes to the brake booster, i must have tweaked it when stabbing the engine in...but got the piece from the old motor and fixed that problem. so everything is fine except for the misfire. when at idle in park it sounds great too, only when driving does it seem to do it. it may also be a bad wire since i had one that had a pin hole in it and when i was tracking down the vacuum leak my hand got to close and it zapped the hell out of me so i changed the one wire only with one of the older wires cause im not spending any more money on this car until i get paid for the work up to now. well thanks guys, any info you think i may need would be greatly appreciated..........

Are you say the convertion is already complete? If you have a 3800 in a 94 it has already been converted so we can not help because every question would require us to know how the convertion was done. If you have a 3800 in the 94 then most of the 97 parts should just bolt right up.

GM did not start putting the 3800 in the camaro until 95 and that was very limited (around 5000 Cars) The 95 has a OBD1.5 computer system. 96 up has a OBD2. At some point your going to have to figure out what computer system you have. Also just a FYI GM did not build a 94 RS There was no RS's built 93-95
