94 3.4 starting problem

I searched the site and couldn't find exactly the solution. Car runs great. When I stole(I mean bought it), the owner said the fuel pump was bad. I started it successfully after 3 attempts. Ran like crap! Paid the $1800. (yep $1800) Drove it home, stopped at Autozone, and bought a good set of Bosch wires. Car ran perfect! Hence the steal. (tee-hee)
But even now, after the car cools off, it won't start untill the 3rd try. More of an annoyance than anything else, but I do know that there has to be something wrong, and I do not want it to escalate.
I tried the 3 time fuel pump activate, no change. Still had to crank 3 more times. Here is a small hint. Usually on the 2nd crank, I hear a small backfire. Very light, but it is there. Then on the 3rd crank, it roars to life. Give me a direction. I can get my hands into it. My first pushrod in about 8 years. I need to get this solved for vanity. I have a remote starter kit to install. And it must work on the 1st crank. Can it still be a weak fuel pump? Or bleedback?

Fuel pressure gage would tell if it was fuel related. It could be a lot of other things. IAC motor, Map sensor, Maf sensor Crank sensor and I am sure a few more I have not thought of.

The previous owner of my 94 replaced the fuel pump, but didn't bother to check the fuel pressure afterwards.
Pull the vacuum line off of the fuel pressure regulator and see if there is any fuel entering the line, while it's running.
Mine ended up having a small hole in the diaphram, and now it starts on the first try, everytime.
