3.8 camaro idler pulley removal
So both my idler pulleys need to be removed. The tension one was easy. Just unbolt and remove. The lower one is a different. I removed the bolt but the pulley wont come out. I dont need to remove the pulley and bracket just the pulley. It won't come off. I tried prying it and no luck.
There could be 2 things holding the pulley on. First is corrosion. Aluminum and Steel dont like each other and will just about weld themselves together from the corrosion. Use a penetrating oil to help break the bond. You may also need to use a drift of some sort and a hammer to break the bonds as well. The other thing is damage to the shaft and a mushrooming in front of the bearing keeping the bearing locked on the shaft. This is a pain to get around and usually easier to just replace the arm that holds the pulley.
Hope this helps.
