Okay so im in the middle of putting a new motor and trans in my mothers 3800 cause she had pretty bad rod nock, she bought the motor and trans out of a running and driving car that was totalled but her transmission only has like 1000 miles on it so we're putting it back in and leaving the old one we just bought out. my question is i drive a 94 3400 v6 and my trans has no reverse and is slipping pretty bad, can i use the trans that was from the 3800 on my 3400? any help is appriciated! Thanks!!

 

nope you gotta get another trans from another 3.4

 

Bolt pattern is different. 3.4s were 60* V6s where else the 3.8s were 90* V6s.

 

Not true, They both have the same bolt pattern. GM switched the 3800's to the 3.4 pattern so they could have interchangabilty. That way they could offer the 3800 as an upgrade to the 3.1's in the FWD cars.

But if I remember right the electrical connectors and torque converter are different. I know the Mitchells Junk yard books does not list the 3.4s tranny as working with the 3800.

 

Aw. I thought they were different. I was going off my old knowledge of the FWD 3100/3400/3800 series engines back when I wanted to stick a 3800 Series II S/C in my Buick. I feel happy though that I was half right on that they won't work.
