hey i have a 2002 stock 5-speed v6 camaro and i was just thinkin the other day about a turbocharger....and ive search and searched but have found no answers .....well im askin what is the diff. kinds of turbos....i dont want a huge one that will tear my engine to peices (if they do that) see i dont know anything about them hardly!! but i was wonderin maybe a price range, and whatever??? please post somethin to help!! THANK YOU!!

 

I've heard that turbos cannot be installed into a Camaro cause of how close the engine is to the firewall. You need to have a hose connect to the back of the engine and with the firewall being so close to it you'll have to do a LOT of fabrication to get it to fit. As far as different kinds of turbos, there isnt much differance between them all. Size and that differs the amount of pressure that will be forced into your intake and into the engine. Superchargers are more for a Camaro then a turbo. V6 however, is hard to get a supercharger made to fit. You'll need to get a supercharger off of a Grand Prix and fabricate that to fit your V6. It would be much more easier to fit the supercharger then the turbo. Good luck!

All forced induction is bad for your engine. But what you really need to watch out for is how much forcing it does. Cause then you get more wear and tear then normal.

For example...a V6 with a supercharger at 6 p.s.i. will do less damage over time then a supercharger at 12 p.s.i. and far less damage then a turbo charger which can get up to pressures of like... 40 p.s.i.

If you reinforce some of your internals then you can withstand more damage then the stock stuff.

 

well what about the engine swap cause thats what i really want to do!! but i was affraid that would cost WAY TOO MUCH!! so what would i need and how much do u think i would be looking to dish out?? tahnks everybody for postin by the way !!!

 

Well...With an engine swap you will get a lot more power say from a LS1 or LT1 (Z28 or SS standard). But as far as puting a turbo on one of those...its the same deal. The engine is too close to firewall. You can get an LT1 or LS1 from a salvage yard fairly cheap. New will cost pretty penny but will be nice and fresh with no wear on it.
