2001 "RS" Rear end

2001 "RS" Rear end
I'm thinking about replacing my open diff. rear end with either limited slip or posi.
From what I understand, which isn't much, posi is totally locked and provides no differentiation while limited slip provides limited differentiation. Either one of them are better than open for wet/snowy conditions right?
What are the gear ratios for the base coupe and the RS for a manual?
Also, how can I tell if my Camaro is a "true RS"? it has the RS symbol in the back and an upgraded suspension with lowering springs in the front which were there when I purchased it.

RS is and apearance package. There where some SLP-RS that had some preformace upgrades but as a general rule the RS badge has no effect on what rear and the suspension is just the stock V6 suspension. Now if the car has a Y-87 package then you have a V6 with all the handling goodies. I have been told that certain rears ratios came with certian motors but every time I see one of these "all automatics had 3:23" the post fills up with Not mine! If posi locked with no slipage the tires would scream on every turn. There is some give. Every 4 to 6 years I have to service my 67's 12 bolt cause it will get jumpy going around a corner. It is a posi.
If you have not driven a car with posi in the snow it takes some getting used to. Sure you will not get stuck as easy but it can be tuff to keep it straight. A simple thing like pulling into a parking spot can be a challange. I do not think you will notice the limit slip vs posi in the snow. Normally after about one full rotation of one tire the second kicks in.
