2.8L to a 3.1L

Default 2.8L to a 3.1L

I have an 88 camaro that had a 2.8l in it. Then went shot. I pulled that motor out of the car and just got 3.1l (that was in a 91) from a junkyard that I know runs. Im now switching over parts so it will hook up right to my car. I have 2 little problems though. The 2.8 fuel rail is a little different from the 3.1. It has a gas hook that goes right in the middle of it and to the back end of the block which has an wire connector back there. In the 3.1, theres a freeze plug there. Also theres a sensor right in the front of the fuel rail that is on the 2.8 but on the 3.1 theres a bolt there that has an inward square shape, so I can't get it out. Would you recommend that I get a 3.1 wiring harness and new computer if I have to, or just wire it up without those not plugged in?

csladek11, The hook shaped line going to the back of the manifold is the cold start injector fuel line. I'm not sure but I think the 3.1 did not use a cold start injector but I'm not sure. I could not find the front sensor you mentioned in front of the fuel rail. Is it mounted on the fuel rail or on the front of the intake? If it's on the intake then it could be the temp. time switch for the cold start injector which might also not be present on your 3.1. Hope this helps, maybe someone else can give some input. The 3.1 does not use a cold start injector, it double fires the injectors instead. So you may have problems getting started unless u use the 3.1 computer. Try using the 3.1 fuel rail in place of the 2.8 one. Also the 3.1 uses larger injectors than the 2.8.

The 3.1 is the one that runs and is replacing the 2.8. Do u think I should just buy a new or used wiring harness and/or computer.
