RE: 1998 RS......Tell me about it??
A 1998 RS Camaro is the same as any other Camaro, but with the ground effects package. Same engine, same transmission, same everything. The 3.8l engine is a solid powerplant that GM has based MANY vehicles upon. I've come across 3.8l Camaros with over 200,000 miles, so yours should have quite a bit of life left in it (granted nothing unforeseen occurs). The only bad thing about it is the transmission. Mine has failed me twice. The 4L60E has never been the best in the world.

RS = appearance package (ground effects and spoiler extensions)
Y87 (lots of RS have this package) = performance package, look for 'Y87' on your door tag
L36 (3800 Series II) is a rock solid engine, on the Wards top ten list for 3 years, one of the best major production engines of all time. 4L60e Auto is a really good trans. Same as the V8 models so it can handle all the power a V6 will ever throw at it.
Keep good care of it, and it will take good care of you.
