1998 Camaro Motor Mount Replacement
 

hey guys i got a 3800 v6 and i have alot of vibration or rattling whenever the car is idling, i am pretty sure this is from the motor mounts, so i was wondering if anyone could give me some advice as to the difficulty of doing this, i kno the ac compressor has to be unbolted from the block to get the passenger side bolt out, how hard is this to do and how long would u think it takes to do?

sounds more like a miss, have you had any ses/check engine lights. be a good idea to have it scanned for codes. maybe check to see if your exhaust is up against the body or frame anywhere along its length.

its not a missfire, their is no check engine light on at all it runs great other than the shaking idle

The A/C bolt isnt too hard to take off. once you get the exhaust pipe out of the way. I cut mine off at the CAT and re welded it later to some new headers. But anyway...

There is only ONE bolt on the motor. It's kind of a useles bolt. I never put mine back on. There are 6 other bolt holding the AC compressor on the car. Not sure why they even put this one there.

If you get that one off then it is pretty easy. Disconnect hoses. Radiator and power steering (Just unlatch the reservoir). Take mount bolts out. Long bolt with nut on front end. Anything else that may hinder the uplift from a cherry picker. Get a nice solid lift on the center of the engine and pull it up as far as you can get it until it clears the mounts. If you need to you can lower the K member down. From there jsut replace the mounts. Sure is odd that you are having this issue. Maybe the rubber around the mounts have rotted away? A detailed inspection is probably worthy at this time. I would hate for you to have to go through all the trouble for nothing.

could be a plugged catalytic converter.
