1995 Camaro Drive or overdrive?

I know don't call me stupid or anything, I am just wondering what's the difference between drive and overdrive. I mean if I have it in drive and just stay on it it won't like red line and blow something up. I mean just wondering like at a certain speed am I required to put in overdrive.

nope computer should be set to downshift when its needed. now if your towing a boat,,,, lol, then you would want to use d.

So I mean there is no need to drive around in D it doesn't set the gears up higher give ya a little more torque or anything.

The difference is....drive=3rd gear, overdrive=4th gear. When doing around town driving, I would always pop mine down into 3rd. Letting it go into 4th at slow speeds lugs the engine rpm's down too low, plus it tends to make the trans keep hunting up and down the gears, which is annoying. After 45mph or so, I put it in 4th.

nope and your computer shouldn't lockup the converter until 40-45 mph so luging should not be an issue. if it is you can do like 69 is saying and use drive.

I use the same train of thought as if it was a manual trans. 4th gear manual=3rd gear automatic (both 1:1). 5th gear manual=4th gear automatic (both overdrive). When driving a manual around town doing 30-35-40 mph, are you going to pop the trans into 5th? Absolutely not! And at the slower speeds, not even into 4th.
