1994 camaro oil pressure issues

my 94 car runs fine but the manual say that my oil pressure should be around 15 to 20 psi. i am running upwards of 60 to 80 psi. can any one give me an idea why this is occurring. i think its having an effect on my performance

could be a bad pressure sensor. best to hook up a mechanical gauge and make sure what you have, the 4th gen gauges are not the most accurate. orrrrr could be a spun bearing. any funny noises lately

Oil pressure is highest with a cold engine. Oil pressure drops as the engine heats up due to changes in bearing tolerances and the hot oil becoming "runnier". Oil pressure will be lower at idle, and will climb as the engine's rpm goes higher. 20 psi at idle is fine. 15 is, eh. 10 is, not so good. Your owners manual (if you have one, see below) states that 20-80 psi is normal, and those fluctuations would be under the conditions I just described. If this is what you're experiencing, there's absolutely nothing wrong with your engine.

i can see 80 lbs on a new engine but not a 20 yr old one. mine had 70 lbs for a couple days. been 40 to 60 for over 20k miles. is the gage jumping up and down without the rpms changing?

no funny noises and no bouncing in the needle runs great…
