"Service Engine Soon" light under hard acceleration
Hi guys,
I'm new here so go easy
I just got a 93 v6 camaro from a buddy of mine that said it had a few "problems"... I've managed to sort mist of them (power steering pump swap etc) but there's one I cant quite get to the bottom of.
The service engine soon light came on yesterday under hard acceleration (WOT up to 75ish mph), I pulled over, let the car idle for a few seconds, turned it off and then started it up again, no SES light.... a little while down the road, maybe 3 miles or so the light came back on. Again though, when i re-start the car the light is off...
I checked the Haynes manual for the error codes and tried to read them by jumping the 2 pins on the ALDL connector (the top right pins). The SES light is meant to flash once then twice to indicate 12 to show that the diagnostics are running, mine just stayed lit... but the engine fan started spinning!! This is all done with the engine off but the ignition in RUN.
So... 2 questions..
1, Any ideas why the light came on under hard acceleration?
2, Any ideas why the SES light wouldn't blink as it should?
There are no garages or auto parts stores here in the UK that can read codes so I'm kinda on my own [&:]
thanks in advance..

sorry... should have said, the plugs and leads are new, as are the coil packs and the serp belt.....
I'll try the coolant and oil change and see if that helps first off...
anyone else care to chime in

it's got a new fuel filter on it, it seems like it goes as it should power wise...
I jumped the 2 aldl pins then turned the key to on if that's what you mean, anything else i should be doing?

Check your Intake...Mine did the same thing...When I brought it to a shop they said my Coolant sensor was off, and My intake was all clogged with gunk. They fixed that then my car sounded beefier and Turned on Really fast...Then my starter went...[:'(]But I got that taken care of as well.
happened to my friend's 95 auto 3.4. but a little different.
he'd get on highway and ram gas, and SES light would come on. but if he did it under ~60MPH, it wouldnt come on. also, as soon as he came to a stop, it would go off. and it(that i felt anyway) made any performance differences.

I don't know why nobody mentioned this...and i know the threaed is a little old, but you can't scan for codes with a jumper on 93-97 cars.
You need a scanner with the proper adapter to pull codes.
I take that back for better wording. ONLY 93 model LT1 cars can be jumped for codes. I swaer the Haynes pointed that out when I had one...
