Rearend verify?

Ok, I want to make sure I buy the correct gear for my Z, its not the factory, but i think its 98 model. How can i verify what it is? My next question, in my s10 they have different gears for different carrier, like for 3.23 and higher...ect....but it was a 7.5 rearend. Is that the same for camaros?

yes and the s10 reared is the same as the camaro. as far as i know they fit. if its the stock rearend then the rpo code would tell you what came from the factory in the car. on my car the code tag is in the glove box. yours may be in the center console or the door jam. its got a list with a bunch of letters and numbers on it, thats your rpo codes. theres a list somewhere on the site, ill look and see, anyways you and also turn your rear wheel one revolution and count the number of times the driveshaft turns, if it turns about 3 and 1/4 times then its a 323, a little less than 3 and 1/2 times its a 342.

ok here is where the rpo codes are, https://camaroforums.com/forum/4th-g...o-codes-50977/ found in the how to and faq sticky at the top of the 4th gen section.

That is a cool trick with the drive shaft. Since mine isnt the orginal one ill check it out. Thanks

From the factory...
Autos will be 2.73 w/ series 2 or 3.23 w/series 3 carrier.
Manuals will be 3.23 or 3.42 with a series 3 carrier.

Jack up the car and mark the driveshaft and a tire with chalk. Do a full rotation of the tire and count how many times the driveshaft spins.

So is the rearend a 7.5?

I just did this little test, and I rotate my tire 1 time and the drive shaft spins 3 3/4. I double checked it and it not 3 1/2. could this be because I have a 275-60-15 tires on the back? or should I be watching the rim not the tire?

You have 3.73 gears then. With a posi/lsd (what you have), both tires are spinning in the same direction when you give them a twirl, and the carrier is also making one revolution. An open diff works differently. Btw, one revolution of the tire is the same as the wheel, they don't slip. Doesn't matter which one you keep an eye on, but the tire is an easier reference.

Awesome, Im not changing it then to a 4.10. Thanks 69!

lol i guess i should have carried it a couple more times. 3 and 3/4 would be like 69 says 373, a little less than 4 would be 390, little more than 4 would be 411 and so on. 373 gears are a good choise for street and track.
