Default Rear End Problem

I just replaced the rear end on my 93 camaro z28 with a 5.7 lt1. i have new richmond gears and a carrier. all bearings are brand new and everything. i have the back lash to .004 the pattern is perfect on it. i have done alot of rear ends and this one just gets me. when going down the road it howls really bad. i know all the bears are good i didnt over tighten anything. i can tfigure out why this rear end is making so much noise. i am debating on maybe trying to put thicker oil in it to see if that helps. but this is the second set of gears put in this. the first one did the same thing and i sent them back and got a different set to see if maybe they were machined wrong. the rear end is a 3.73 with a 8 and 1/4 carrier. can anyone help me figure this out.

thanks.

Richmond gears are known to be noisy, more so than other brands. Do a "Richmond Gear noise" google search, and read away.

lol. have you checked your u-joints that could be causing vibrations. i can go fast with my car and no vibration but the whinning is so high pitch i can barely hear it. but when i get to 45-60 mph it whines. i did some research and alot of people are saying to use lucas gear lube. it aparently sticks to the gears and it will quiet them down alot or completely.

how did you arrive at .004 for your backlash? According to their website the bl is marked on each gearset, as they are pre-run at the factory.

I have a 1992 Camaro RS with only 39K and have the same problem the backed makes a nasty sound. It does it at all speeds just changes pitch and loadness. I have not changed anything yet but dont want to spend allot of money before I know what the problem is. I think its the passager side outer axle bearing thats wear the sound is coming from. I need help to resolve the issue. Thanks
