LT1 6-Speed Clutch Question

Hey guys. Just picked up a 1994 Z28 6-speed and the clutch feels a little weird. It doesn't engage until the pedal is almost all the way up from the floor. It also chatters really badly if you don't slip it a lot while taking off. I figure it needs a clutch but will replacing the clutch fix the engage point on the pedal?

Thanks in advance!

go with the full monte,,, change master and slave cylinders with the clutch. should be like new. check for bent arm when its apart.

At one point you could buy the Master cylinder/line /slave cylinder as an assembly cheaper at the dealer then the aftermarket. It could be different now but you should check it out.

Every clutch will feel different, even driving the car off the transport you can feel a slight difference. I have had tons of work orders on new cars that claimed clutch engagement was either too low or too high. We check to make sure it is working right maybe bleed it (if possible) then tell the customers its just the way it is. This was really tuff on the old timers who would get their new truck adjusted the way they liked it right after break in.

It doesn't just engage high. It engages like at the very top of the pedal. Maybe an inch before the clutch is all the way out.

with the chatter an all i think change of clutch and pressure plates would do it, it would just suck if the master and/or slave clyinder went or is not happy after. i think you gotta pull the trans to change the slave.

Don't forget the Fly wheel resurface and the release bearing. I don't know what your car feels like, I have had customers complain that a clutch feels to too high and too low on both new cars and after clutch replacements. I have never had any lucking repair or changing the feeling of a hydraulic clutch assuming there was not air in the system. It sounds like you are changing the entire system so who knows what you will end up with.

Slave can be changed without pulling the trans.

Sounds like clutch and TOB are worn, though chattering could be from a flywheel that wasn't replaced or resurfaced.

Thanks for all the input!! I'm going to just buy a clutch kit from Tennessee Clutch and Supply in a couple months. My buddy has a 6 puck from them in his LS1 Camaro and its awesome! Not to mention, very affordable. My buddy has made many drag passes with this clutch and his car is over 400hp. No problems yet!
