Default Front shocks/struts.

This car.... when it rains it pours. So both my front shocks locked up sometime in the past week. I noticed it was riding rougher and today had my wife bounce on the back and front a bit and sure enough both front are locked. The first quote I got was $1000 because it also needs an alignment, seems high regardless. It was the only shop open when I realized, I'm going to do some calling around tomorrow. I was looking at various parts on RockAuto, all seem pretty affordable. The fronts are struts correct? I've watched a couple videos, it looks like it would cost more labor to replace just the struts rather than buying the whole strut/spring/mounting assembly? If I end up paying the same overall but can take some labor out buy buying the whole assembly, I'd say that would be the correct move. Looking for advice. Much appreciated for anything!

actually they are not struts but coil over shocks on front and just shocks on back. backs are simple change, front needs the use of spring compressors very similar to struts. front can be a pain in the butt. I would recommend you check strano parts. koni has street set for reasonable price. bilstein also has a good set that work great on 4th gens.

They are easy to replace if you get the whole assembly.

looks like the whole assembly is only about $35 more each on rock auto. They call them struts and I've been told in the past they were struts?

So my question is by the link from my original post, are they just labeled struts on Rock Auto's site or is that the wrong product? Looks correct to me but I could be wrong.

Cool, thanks! I'll probably just get the whole assembly. Waiting for a guy to call me back about putting them on. Some shops won't let you use your own parts Q_Q

What do you think between the two brands offered? Any experience with either?

They are considered struts, despite the fact the Camaro has an upper control arm suspension. The advantages of installing a complete assembly (called a quick strut) are: ease of installation, new coil springs, new spring insulators, new upper mounts. To replace just the strut and reuse all the other old worn out parts is a complete waste of time and effort. In our shop, I lean towards using KYB; they're a good brand and having any come back for warranty reasons is rare. However, I don't think KYB has a quick strut available for your car. So that leaves you with the choices of what is available, or piecing them together and paying a shop to disassemble and reassemble. Of the rockauto choices, I would pick the Gabriel. I've used FCS before, but they're not a name brand. Both consider themselves "OEM quality". The OSC, I wouldn't consider since it's an "economy" brand, and I've never heard of or used them. So, those other two are fine for a daily driver, if that's all you're after. If looking for performance, then step up to something like Bilstein and pay to have them assembled. Just be sure to replace the coil springs and insulators, it's stupid not to when everything will be apart.
