Default '96 RS Build Thread

Small bit of history. this is "was" my dad's car. He passed away April 22nd this year, just about 9 months after my mom passed. The car would have had some sort of modification/restoration to it as time permitted etc.

On the way home from him buying it from Kidd Chrysler in Lawrenceburg, IN

The Camaro and my daughter in her "racecar" this year, the day after Dad's services.

Maintenance wise it needed brakes and a water pump right off the bat. Slotted / drilled rotors going on and mentally fighting the urge to detail under there (was on a time constraint with rain coming)

Brakes / water pump done, washed and semi-detailed.

Washed and cleaned with new wheels on as of today 8/5. Clear marker lights with red led's have been on for a bit in the back. Have the fronts for it as well.

Currently on order are a few parts from founder's, strut brace, rear lowers and panhard bar. researching lowering springs/coilovers at the moment. looking for about an inch and half in front or a smidge less gives the aggressive stance. once I get all the suspension buttoned up front and back I'll move to the next stage.

It will be stuffed with an LSx build at some point, more than likely after the 5.3 is between the frame rails of my show truck sonoma, for now the 3.8 and the t-tops out for cruising and I'm content (to an extent lol)

one of the inspiring pics I found, this of a Z28 but clean and simple. Just gaining ideas, it'll def. get a different hood as Dad would have done eventually.

Sorry for your loss. Never easy to lose a loved one. And welcome to the forums!

Car looks real nice! Not fond of the wheels, but that's me and to each their own.

definitely sorry for your loss, but nothing better then keeping a memory alive like your dads car.

Good luck with the build and keep up with the pics

Thank you, i appreciate it. and that's something I love about this "industry" or hobby as we may call it (or obsession). Everyone has their own tastes and opinions, but is polite about it as you were .

Thank you, it's been quite a lot to deal with, but i know I can't change the past and have to move forward but never forget.

The forums are a wealth of knowledge that I'm truly enjoying reading.

I will say that it was very nice this morning opening the garage door, backing the camaro out, with the t-tops already out, and driving to work. This is the first f-body I've had, although I've had a few other chances, just wasn't the right time nor place for it. End goal one day is a pro-touring 1st or 2nd gen.

I actually like the wheels, it will look sick once it's lowered. If you're shopping Founders for suspension parts, pick up some LCAs, relocation brackets, and adjustable panhard bar. All good mods to have if you're going to be lowering.

Personally, I actually think tinted (rather than clear) turn signals would look much better. That way you could have a black/white theme carried through the car.

Thank you thank you. Yeah in searching here and the interweb I've seen strano pop up numerous times, nevertheless, it's bookmarked and I'll def. be ordering from him.

Thank you. I figured the wheels would be a love/hate thing with some. I'm a huge fan of forged / billets on pretty much everything (I'd intended on 20x12 American Force on my daily driver 03 Sierra, but decided against lol).

I'm huge on a vehicle having a cool stance, but also being functional / drivable (although i did trailer my show truck sonoma to a show a few weeks back soley because of not wanting to bend a wheel on those billets).

I agree with the clear vs. black lenses, and on that note, the front bumper lenses and rears that are currently clear are giving way for a set of black ones (that will arrive tomorrow actually). I have red LED's for the rears since those dont blink and I wanted a nice output, and I have the chrome bulbs that blink in amber for the fronts already awaiting. I also have the low beam housings that will accept a regular bulb of which I'll put HID's in there along with HID's in the fogs (love the look, but love the function of the output of brightness).

I've come accross your build as well and have been learning quite a bit from it as well
