Unable to get into programming mode?

2002 RS.

Just got the car for my son and it came with 2 chipped keys, no remote. Bought and successfully programmed a key remote BUT the security lock out and alarm system are causing issues where I can't start the car until the alarm has finished and it resets after 3 minutes. Using the remote and/or chipped keys doesn't do anything to stop this once its started.

If the car is locked with the remote or with the auto lock on the door, the alarm sets automatically. If you use a door key to open the door there is no delay for the alarm and the Security light goes on. Using the remote to unlock the doors will keep the alarm from going off but the Security lock out still happens and I have to wait 3 minutes to start the car.

I looked at the manual and some of the issues look like they can be resolved by going into Programming mode and changing some default settings. However, I can't seem to get into Programming mode and am wondering if anyone has discovered a different way?

1> Key in ignition
2>Turn key to RUN to disarm theft system
3>Ignition to OFF
4>Remove Radio fuse
5> Ignition to ACCESSORY
6> Count the chimes ------- I am not getting the chimes. I know they work because I hear them when the keys are in the ignition and I open a door.

Any ideas or should I just look at creating a bypass like others are doing?

The process you describe seems to be correct. The only thing that comes to mind is the radio fuse. There two fuses one marked radio accessary and the other marked radio. Is it possible you pulled the radio accessary fuse instead of the radio fuse? The radio fuse is #17 which is located in the bottom righthand corner of the block.

Thanks -- it is the right fuse. I will reconfirm but I checked a couple times.

I read other forum threads where people wanted to change a program mode and have not been able to get into programming mode but there hasn't been any responses that I can locate that show that particular issue has been resolved.

After re-reading your post, I don't think changing the program settings will have any affect on the time out of the car starting. Basically, the settings pertain to the door locking and alarming modes I think. The condition you describe should be controlled by resistance value of the ignition key being read through the contacts in the key switch and matching the value stored in the Body Control Module. If the resistive reading is not able to be read or it doesn't match the stored value, the BCM will not energize the starter relay or enable the fuel pump circuit for approximately three minutes. Have you tried both sets of keys? The fact that it starts after a timed out period makes me wonder if the resistor chip or key switch contacts could be dirty.

my 93 was doing some weird stuff when the vats wire in the columm was failing. try testing your ohms at the wire under dash down the column. some info here that for the most part applies to your car http://shbox.com/1/pass_key.html
shot in the dark, try resetting the sytem. unhook any aftermarket batteries if you have any, like capasitors on stereo amp. take both battery cables off, pos and neg, and hold them together for a time, 20 seconds or so then hook back up. should reset all systems, the car may run rough for a few starts and runs as it re learns

for more info also look at 25 here https://camaroforums.com/forum/93-02...62/#post557634 and download a factory manual here use 2000 svcman should be same as yours http://www.mediafire.com/?40mfgeoe4ctti
