Power window motor swap...

So, I swapped out my passenger side power window motor last night. It was failing in the usual manner, and I was getting tired of "helping" it up.

I followed the instructions from Shbox's site, and boy, am I ever glad I did.

Had I not looked at the correct rivets to remove, I would have taken out the regulator ones for sure, just from looking at it from the back.

Total time, 1 beer. Err...just under an hour.

Picked up the motor of fleabay for under $50, shipping in.

If anyone is planning on doing this swap, I highly recommend this link!

The PO replaced my motors before I bought it, but I was in there the other day trying to get the window adjusted right and noticed great big screws and washers where the outer rivits are so apparently he drilled out the wrong rivits...lol

Yea, the regulator rivets are quite large. The 3 that hold on the motor are tiny. Easy mistake to make. I think that is about nine hours Shbox has saved me so far. Only had the car since August. Many more to come I am sure.

Yea, this was definitely a motor issue, not a wiring issue. With the new motor it fairly 'leaps' up now....about twice as fast as the drivers side now.

It's always a poor wiring issue, which in turn can make it a motor issue.
But often times the symptom is reversible without having to replace the motor.

Well, the OEM motor lasted 18 years. If I get half that out of the aftermarket motor, I will be super happy.

Use autozone motors next time, they have a lifetime warranty, so you buy one and when it goes out you take it out and go get another one from them. I've had pretty good luck with there motors lasting about 2 years on my Z with DD duties.
