After market gauges

Hi all I have not had any luck with a search, but I want to know if it is possible to swap out the stock gauges for Auto Meter gauges in a 2002 Z28.

Why??

MKCoconuts 10-30-2012 11:39 AM

You can do it, but you need all electrical gauges and you need to know what wires go to what. Just you know, it's a lot of work to remove the instrument panel (time consuming, not hard) and chances are you'll crack your dash in the process (if it's not cracked all ready).

Why, because I would rather look at a nice set of gauges than the ugly ones that are in there. After some looking around on the net I found this thread on CamaroZ28.com. Just what I was looking for. Pics, custom autometer gauge cluster - CamaroZ28.Com Message Board

The reason he was asking why is because it is a lot of work. You have to tear most of the dash apart which is time consuming and if you dash isn't all ready cracked you risk cracking it. I mean if that's what you wanna do by all means go for it. I think it'd look nice like the one on CamaroZ28.

Yeah, it would look cool but would have to be totally custom. Could not use any of the existing electronics that I am aware of and would be a pain, but if you have the time/money/expertise/patience/backup vehicle, then go for it. Be sure to document, it would be a great write up.

Well I dont have a back up vehicle at the moment, but with being stuck on disability I do have plenty of time right now. I will take pictures and do a right up when I do do it, I think ill find another dash to do set up on so that when I go to put it in it will be all set up.

i think that would look sick on a z, i know 6LE designs makes a blank cluster plate that fits right into the dash that you can mount the gauges in, makes life easier cause you can still use your car while making the cluster.

If this is the item you are talking about, 1997-2002 Gauge Cluster BLANK Plate, 6LE Designs LLC I think I would rather just make my own. I have alot of fabrication experience as thats what I did for the last 6 years. It is a nice looking way to start but I dont think it is for me.
